2. Who was Thomas Hobbes and What did he do?
Thomas Hobbes was born into a somewhat unstable family. His father abandoned his family and left them under the care of Thomas's uncle. At the age of 14 Hobbes attended Magdalen Hall in Oxford. After he studied here he went on to become the private tutor for the son of Lord Cavendish of Hardwick. When his student died in 1628 he always worked for wealthy families. The creation of his philosophies began through his association with the Cavendish family. He began to see certain activities of people such as members of the Parliament. He was able to be brought closer to power because of all the knowledge that he has attained at the time.
Thomas Hobbes was most commonly known as a writer and philosopher. However, he also took on the occupations of a historian, political scientist, scientist, and a journalist. Hobbes wrote various books and theories on political philosophy. He had very strong beliefs that have been misunderstood by some people. His political views on society sparked many creations throughout his time that can still be found today.(4)
